Fish oil without the fishiness! What's not to love? Puori O3 is ultra pure and highly concentrated fish oil capsules. Each serving contains 2000mg omega-3, and every batch is third-party tested by International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) for purity and freshness to meet the world’s highest standards.
Puori O3 was the very first supplement launched by Puori. The founders had an experience that many us recognize—nasty fish burps when taking fish oil supplements—which they learned was due to the fact that the oil was often rancid. Then and there, they made a bold decision to create an uncompromising, high-quality alternative to what they could find in the market, guaranteed to be clean, fresh, and not least trustworthy – and prove it by getting it certified and clean labeled.
Puori O3 is made from sustainable, wild caught anchovies in the South-Pacific Ocean. The fish is caught with Friends of the Sea (FOS) certified fishing methods, securing by-catch, environmental, and sustainability ethics. The plant, processing the oil, is located right offshore, which allows for quick processing time and ensures a fresh end-product.
Natural lemon flavor from real lemons gives O3 a fresh smell and taste, and natural extracted vitamin E is added to the fish oil to make sure it stays fresh - a common addition in most fish oil products.
IFOS test each batch for environmental contaminants, including heavy metals, PCBs, dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like PCBs. These can accumulate in fat and oils derived from fish and may have adverse health effects. IFOS also measures oxidation and rancidity to ensure that the oil is stable and fresh for consumption.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of omega-3s, especially from marine sources on cardiovascular health both in patients with cardiovascular disease and in healthy persons, correlating a higher consumption of fish with a lower frequency of cardiovascular disease.
Around 60% of the brain consists of fat. Especially, DHA is found in abundance in both the brain and retina of the eye. Hence, DHA is a vital component in the development of normal brain and eye function in the developing fetus and constitutes a building block for billions of neurons. Learning is highly associated with the ability to form new connections in the brain – DHA appears to play a critical role in maintaining and preserving the plasticity of the brain.
Both Omega-3 and omega-6 are essential fatty acids that we need from our diet. The balance between omega-3 and omega-6 is essential for regulating the types of messenger molecules present in the body. Omega-6 tends to form pro-inflammatory signaling molecules, whereas omega-3 form anti-inflammatory signaling molecules. The drastic change in the Western diet, over the past decades, has caused the dietary ratio omega-6: omega-3 to moved towards a much higher intake of omega-6 than omega-3. This skews in the balance encourages the body to be in a pro-inflammatory state. Increasing intake of oily fish or supplementing with omega-3s is a way to counterbalance this and increases your production of anti-inflammatory signaling molecules.
Omega-3 is an essential nutrient which means that humans need it from the diet. Most of the population don’t get enough to balance the high intake of omega-6 in the typical western diet, resulting in inflammation in the body.
For adults 11 years and up take 3 softgels daily, preferably with a meal or as recommended by a physician. You can choose whether to take your daily dose all at once or divided throughout the day.
The general recommendation is to aim for around 2-4 grams of omega-3 fatty acids preferably in the form of EPA and DHA per day. Ideally you would get this from a natural source like wild caught fish, but if you have limited access to these, you can use supplements to get the optimal dose.
If you are a competing athlete, a higher daily dose may be recommended to prevent inflammation, enhance recovery, improve endurance performance. Talk to your medical doctor if you think you may need more.
Keep your fish oil in a cool, dark place, preferably in the fridge. Omega-3s react to light, heat and oxygen and can turn rancid. Rancid fish oil based on the smell and taste should be discarded immediately.
